Cancer Didn’t Win – My Two-Year CancerFREEaversary
Cancer didn’t win – I did! Two years ago, I completed my final round of chemotherapy on January 23rd, 2016, and two days later, on January 28th, I celebrated my CancerFREEaversary—two years cancer-free. This marks a huge victory for me after battling cancer three times. I am now stronger, healthier, and forever grateful for the support of my family, friends, and medical team. Cancer didn’t win, and I couldn’t be prouder of this victory.
The Journey of Fighting Cancer Three Times
In November 2008, I was diagnosed with Stage 4, B-cell follicular, Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at just 31 years old. When the doctor said those dreaded words, “You have cancer,” everything stopped. The world seemed to go dark. When I was young, had three kids, and a life ahead of me. I was living in Apple Creek, starting a new chapter. Never did I expect that this would happen to me. But, I fought. I fought through grueling chemotherapy treatments, allergic reactions to medication, and the emotional rollercoaster of being told I might lose my hair. But I didn’t give up. My hair grew back, and I WON.
A Relapse and Fighting Again
Fast forward to October 2014. I felt a new lymph node on the side of my neck. Deep down, I knew it. Cancer was back. I struggled to admit it, even canceling my scheduled CAT scan. But my best friend, who herself had fought cancer, called me out. Thanks to her, I finally sought help. After a consultation in Cleveland, I went through another round of chemotherapy. I couldn’t believe I was fighting again, but I was ready. Cancer didn’t win the second time, either.
Cancer Came Back…And I Kicked It to the Curb Again!
In 2015, I got the devastating news that cancer had returned for a third time. I was scared but determined. It felt like a cruel twist of fate, but I wasn’t going to let cancer win. With my faith, family, and medical team by my side, I fought back with everything I had. After chemotherapy, stem cell treatments, and the support of so many people, I emerged victorious once again. Cancer didn’t win – I did!
A Huge Thank You
I couldn’t have done this alone. I’m incredibly thankful for my husband and kids who supported me through all of my treatments. I also want to thank the countless family and friends who stood by me. From meals and encouraging cards to prayers and donations, I felt so much love. Thank you to my medical team, especially Dr. Masci at the Cleveland Clinic, and to the nurses who helped me through some of the toughest days. Your support made all the difference.

Why I Documented My Journey – Cancer didn’t Win
I wanted to capture this moment. Megan from Sarver Photography helped me do just that. The memories of my last chemo session will stay with me forever, and I’ll always be grateful for the opportunity to have these photos.
